Every time I see a rainbow the inner child in me jumps in joy and sheer fascination. Maybe I am strange but despite seeing the rainbow many times over, the beauty of 7 colours shining through the clouds is something I always find breathtaking.
The last month has left me speechless. I sometimes wish I could turn back the time, rewind to what was. Reality seems incomprehensible and the future looks grey.
As a mother trying to find words to help my children understand, I have over the last month found it difficult to find answers to the whys.
But the beauty of life is that words come. Just like the rainbow always shines out in a grey sky, life continues and through the ashes, we strive to rise.
As my children started school, I listened to what they discussed, what tidbits they shared.
My 9 year old talking about her realisations put it very simply, “mama we all are different yet we are the same”.
Her words echo true as we look at the beauty of the rainbow; seven distinct colours form the rainbow, each colour in equal proportion blending gently with the other.
Our nation needs each one of us in our own unique way to stay in our individuality to make this country beautiful. No one race is more privileged than another, no one religion more important. If we all stand together respecting our own differences yet valuing each other won’t we shine out like the rainbow?
Created as a promise to mankind, I pray that we will raise our daughters and sons to be part of the rainbow, teaching them the importance of staying true to one's own identity whilst respecting and valuing the difference of another.
