Pull-apart Cheesy Sausage Bites
Not Really Easy

For 8 Person(s)

For the dough

  • 2 cup(s) flour
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 0.75 cup(s) water, warm
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 60 g cold butter, cut into small pieces

For assembling

  • 13 Crescent Sausages cut into 1 inch pieces - I have used 50 1 inch pieces in this recipe
  • 100 g cheddar cheese, grated OR 6-8 cheddar cheese slices
  • Tomato ketchup as needed (could substitute with mustard sauce for more flavour)
  • Mozzarella cheese to top as needed

    Prepare the dough:
  1. In a bowl, add the warm water together with the yeast and sugar and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Now add the flour, salt and egg to the yeast mixture and start kneading.
  3. When the flour has got incorporated into the yeast mix, slowly start adding the cold butter piece by piece as you continue to knead.
  4. Sprinkle a little flour if it’s too greasy. Once the dough comes together nice and smooth, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise until it doubles in size
  5. Once the dough has risen, bring it to a floured work surface. Deflate it and roll it out with a rolling pin to about a 10×15 inch shaped rectangle.
  6. Apply either tomato ketchup or mustard sauce all over the rolled out dough. Now spread your cheddar cheese over the sauce.
  7. It’s time to cut the rectangular dough. Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough horizontally to about 20-25 strips (half the amount of sausage pieces you are using). Now cut these strips in half vertically so you will have about 50 strips. (Cut the amount of strips you need for the number of sausage pieces you are using).
  8. Assemble:
  9. Prepare a baking tray with parchment paper and greased with some oil. I have used a 12 inch round baking tray.
  10. Wrap each sausage piece on a dough strip. It will get quite messy with the sauce and cheese, but don’t worry to make it perfect. The imperfection will make it look so great!
  11. As you wrap the dough strips with the sausages, place them all together, face up, on the prepared baking tray. Once all the strips are wrapped and placed on the tray, cover it loosely with a kitchen towel and let it rise for about half an hour. After half an hour top the wraps with some grated mozzarella.
  12. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake for about 20-25 minutes until the cheeses have melted and turns golden brown in color.
  13. Pull apart the cheesy sausage bites and enjoy! Perfect to pair with a nice warm soup for dinner.
