Avengers: Endgame is set to be one of the biggest cinematic events to have ever hit the silver screen, a culmination of the last 11 years of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is set to conclude the story of the MCU’s “Infinity Saga” that was kicked off with 2008’s ‘Iron Man’. The question remains to be answered, will this film prove to be the poignant conclusion it needs to be or a mediocre superhero blockbuster? While the film usually reaches its solutions through violence, it champions themes of selflessness, sacrifice and courage through characters that have been developing in front of viewers for years. While the titular Avengers are flawed and do have falling outs during the film but do manage to set aside their differences for the greater good of the universe; putting down a solid example for kids to embrace selflessness, courage and teamwork.
Quite frankly, this film left me speechless after my first viewing. But do take my opinion with a grain of salt as I have been a long-time fan of these characters and the franchise. Needless to say, ‘Endgame’ provides viewers with copious amounts fan service and pays off moments that have been teased years and years in advance. With this pay off comes a conclusion to the story arcs of characters, without spoiling anything; these actors truly bring their A-game to the table in this movie and turn in their best performances as their respective characters in a way that will undoubtedly please and move audiences immensely.
Now while the film is easily an incredible conclusion, the plot can be rather messy and difficult to understand across its titanic 3-hour run-time. Keep in mind that this manages to not take away from the overall quality of the film, however certain plot elements come across that clog up the organic flow of the plot and affect the pacing, which could lead audiences to feel that the writers are trying far too hard to fit as many closes to the stories of our heroes in and it just appears to be an attempt to tie up as many plot threads as possible. This takes away from the overall spectacle of the film and actual enjoyment of the plot itself, but only incrementally.
Nonetheless, ‘Endgame’ boasts incredible special effects and an absolutely jaw-dropping final battle scene that manages to provide a macro view of every hero in the MCU and encapsulate what viewers love about them during their interactions with one another.
This movie is a must-watch if you’re a Marvel fanatic and even if you aren’t I would still highly recommend it as it is an incredibly enjoyable film with lots of heart, determination and likeable characters.
