Black Adam is a stand alone DC movie based on a character from the comics which goes back to the 1940s. A dour, grim movie which ironically officially is linked to Shazam, which is fun and light to say the least. But unless you look this up you won't know this fact. So for layman Black Adam, whom we haven't interacted with before just comes out of nowhere with a movie of his own.
And DC could have carried this off had they casted it properly. The ROCK (much as I love him) is completely the wrong person for this role which is a humourless, dark role. So unlike The Rock that the result is 2 hours of watching Dwayne Johnson glower at us from the screen. His 'acting' has been described by various critics as 'dull as dishwarter' and 'rubbish'.
The backstory is interesting, had we had a chance of kind of be introduced to it before, it might have been easier to build it through the movie. The Pierce Brosnan/ Aldis Hodge duo has some chemistry (they are sent by Viola Davis to destroy Black Adam) and tries to save the film but can't.
Lots of violence - should have been an R rating but wrangled a PG 13.
MIC opinion is DON'T BOTHER.
